Willem -Jan Piggen,
was born the 24th of May 1978 and grew up in West - Brabant. Already at a young age Willem -Jan started to ride on his families' ponies and after a long discussion with his parents he and his sister were allowed to join the local Pony Club.
Right in the first year he became NKB champion in both jumping and dressage with his self-bred pony. After that, he won a lot of titles and took part in M- level jumping and dressage classes with his just six year old pony.
After finishing school, Willem -Jan studied architecture and real estate management. During his studies, he trained his horses in the evening and in the weekend he went to horse shows. He achieved many victories and placings in both national dressage classes and 1.40m jumping classes. Willem -Jan became one of the first members of the Rabobank talent team.
During the school holiday he trained together with several top riders, such as:
After his studies Willem -Jan decided to concentrate on the horse sport and rode horses for international top stables. In the last 15 years he rode different horses for:
He trained with the Danish rider Anne van Olst, the German coach Jürgen Köschel, Anky van Grunsven, Tineke Bartels and Imke Schellekens -Bartels. Some of the stallions he succeeded with, are:
At the moment, Willem -Jan is training horses of different customers and present them at competitions, shows and clinics. Furthermore, he has a lot of students. Especially the training of licensed stallions is one of his strengths. He trains the stallions for i.e. stallion competitions, performance tests and championships.
Beside his study real estate management, Willem-Jan educated himself in the equestrian sector and expanded his knowledge. Next to his experience as a rider at international top stables, he improved his skills in the equestrian sport. Thanks to a newly developed project between the NHB Deurne and the Academy Bartels he is also a qualified manager and riding instructor on level 4. He participated at this project together with other top riders who were also not officially recognized as a coach yet.
